The series proceeds in a well-knit form to examine the following: historical sites in Nigeria, the nature and the character of pre-colonial Nigerian states, kingdoms and empires, centres of civilization, interrelationship in pre-colonial Nigeria, and prominent empires.

The series further discusses the Trans-Saharan Trade, the Trans-Atlantic Trade, early European contacts with Nigeria, British Colonization of Nigerian territories, the evolution of the Nigerian states, the amalgamation of Nigeria, and the independence movements, which led to Nigeria’s independence on 1 October, 1960. Therefore, the books discuss the trajectories and the travails of political, economic, cultural and social developments in the Nigerian state up to independence.

Each book in this series is designed to cover one year’s work in the junior secondary schools, and it is respectively very detailed. At the end of every ninth unit, there are questions to test students’ comprehension about the topics for knowledge evaluation.
